This 5-day personal retreat is for anyone seeking to deepen his or her connection to their own personal Journey. Assisting us will be the amazing Blacktail Ranch herd. With their help we will find our most authentic self by working with Horse through contemplative trail rides, round pen work, and in shamanic journeywork. We will tap into our creative expression through different. All experience levels with horses, shamanism, and creative expression are welcome.

Living in the moment is where horses reside. They are great Teachers of the power of Presence. The Blacktail Herd will help us to access that place of peace and inner stillness where we can practice the art of Presence and live life fully.

Blacktail Ranch is the home of a Sacred Cave that calls all who visit to come and experience what it has to offer. We will spend ceremonial time visiting the cave as others have done for thousands of years before us. Blacktail Ranch is a third generation owned, 8,000-acre ranch that sits up against the eastern slope of the Continental Divide, between Great Falls and Helena. This incredible place is home to elk, bears, coyote, deer, as well as many species of birds. Eagle migratory paths are through this land. One fork of the Dearborn River meanders through and draws you come back to your most instinctual self.

Our days will be filled with a variety of scheduled activities as well as some free time to explore the land, rest, or visit with a friend.

Participants may arrive at the ranch by 3pm on our start day. The ranch provides a shuttle to and from the Great Falls airport. The cost for the ranch shuttle is $60 for the round trip. Flights should arrive in Great Falls by 1pm on start date. We will end our session in the morning on last day, and the shuttle will be transporting participants to the airport to arrive there about 12pm. Departure flights should not be scheduled any earlier than 1pm from Great Falls airport. Participants will want to be prepared for anything in terms of weather – rain or warm sunny days and cool evenings.

*Participation in this workshop qualifies as a prerequisite for the Epona Apprenticeship Program and the Adventures in Awareness Internship Program.

I fell in love with the herd—they changed me. Every time I speak of them to my friends and family, I am filled with enormous love. They have all said that it is so strong that they feel it too.

Once you’ve been to Blacktail there is no going back. No going back to seeing the world through a constricted lens, no going back to living outside your physical body, and no going back to living life without contemplation.

Once you’ve been to Blacktail you will understand the expansiveness of our human nature. You will claim anew the role of Nature as a healing force and will know in your bones the source of your most authentic self. You will experience being witnessed by a herd of horses and a Circle of humans that are committed to seeing our strengths and bright potential. You will have the opportunity to witness in a new way the exterior and interior landscapes of all who come together at this time and in this place.

The interest, curiosity, honesty and gentle acceptance from the herds, both horse and human was truly magical and heartwarming.
Your choices of activities and incorporation of art, ceremony, group exchange, introspection, horse work, honoring nature and the divine was all so well thought out.
Margot, Montana

An animal hasn't lost its oneness with the totality.

It is not burdened by a continuous stream of thinking.

It is deeply rooted in Being.

It does not create a world of problems.

It is one with life.
