Horses are our guides, our teachers, our mentors. They carry us along the spiritual path.

Equine Facilitated Experiential Learning(EFEL)

The Eye of the Horse is dedicated to bringing the emerging field of Equine Facilitated Experiential Learning (EFEL) into the world. Laurie Levon and Melissa Shandley carry a heartfelt passion for equine work by partnering with horses to assist in human growth and development experiences. EFEL appeals to a wide variety of needs. Curious seekers can experience opportunities for personal growth and exploration in a new way through EFEL that can quickly address core issues and reveal dynamics in relationships. EFEL work can inspire and challenge us to live in connected relationship with our whole being: Mind, body, spirit and emotions.

A strong stillness dwells

In the eye of the horse,

A composure that appears

To regard the world from

A measured distance.......

it is a gaze from the depths

Of a dream...

-Hans-Heinrich Isenbart

In collaboration with Barbara Rector and Adventures in Awareness!

July 30-August 3, 2008 - Our Fifth Year At Blacktail Ranch, Wolf Creek, Montana

Horses survive and thrive by keeping a wide view, staying aware of the big picture. They connect their visual field with other senses to maintain balance. When we interact with these animals we are invited to see ourselves through their eyes. The horse is a mirror to what each individual presents in terms of behaviors, emotions, and intentions. The size of the horse keeps our attention and their willingness to engage with us in a nonjudgmental manner allows us to see our patterns, develop a Fair Witness and explore relational dynamics in the moment.

Our approach is one that promotes personal responsibility and empowerment. In the presence of horses we experience the power of being witnessed and of being the witness. These elements provide the framework for lasting change.
